However, controversies arose when Manoj Muntashir publicly announced boycott of Filmfare and other awards. He was quite dejected for not making it to the top even after being nominated for the “Best Lyrics” category. He questioned the credibility of Filmfare’s judgement of considering the lyrics of “Ghanta leke jayega…” being better than “Itni si hai dil ki arzoo..”
While the popularity of “Apna Time Ayega…” cannot be questioned, “Teri mitti me ghul jawan…” writer Muntashir does have a valid point here. In his social media statement, he claimed that he wouldn’t be able to write a better song than “Teri mitti…” ever. He refrained from directly criticizing “Apna time aayega…”, but he did lash out at Filmfare for not honouring the sentiments of our people who cried after listening to this song.
